In a world filled with distractions, being fully present can feel impossible. Our phones buzz, to-do lists grow, and even during the holidays—a season meant for connection—we’re pulled in countless directions. Yet, the most meaningful moments in life happen when we’re truly present with others and with God.

From the beginning, God has shown His desire to dwell among His people. In the wilderness, His presence filled the Tabernacle (Exodus 40:34–35). Later, His glory descended on the Temple (1 Kings 8:10–11). These moments symbolized God’s nearness and His desire to be central to His people’s lives.

When Jesus came, God’s presence became personal. As John wrote,

“The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us”  (John 1:14, NIV).

Through Christ and now the Holy Spirit, God’s presence is no longer confined to a structure—it dwells within us (ref: 1 Corinthians 6:19).

This holiday season, let’s follow God’s example by choosing presence. Prioritize connection over perfection by simplifying tasks and focusing on people. Create technology-free zones during meals or gatherings. And pause to notice the beauty of the moment, whether it’s laughter with family or quiet time with God. When we choose to be present, we reflect the heart of Emmanuel—“God with us” (Matthew 1:23).

This season, presence is the greatest gift you can give—to others and to the Lord. Will you choose to give it?
