John 6:51 (NIV)
"I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world."
Reflection:
Jesus says, "I am the living bread..." one of seven "I Am" statements Jesus makes of Himself in John's gospel (Jn. 6:48,51; 8:12; 10:7,9; 11:25; 10:14; 14:6; 15:1,5). The Israelites ate the manna in the wilderness. They came to despise it (Num. 11:4-6) and later died (ref. Jn. 6:48).
Unlike physical bread, which only satisfies a temporary need, Jesus is the "living bread who will give His life for the world." For all who come to Him, Jesus provides life forever.
