Jesus offers peace the world cannot give.
John 14:27 (NIV)
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."
Jesus is sharing words to comfort His disciples just before He is arrested and led to the cross. The peace offered through Jesus is access to the Father. The world offers a temporary and fleeting peace based on circumstances. However, the peace offered through Jesus transcends circumstances, as the apostle Paul records in his letter to the Philippians.
Philippians 4:6–7 (NIV)
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
In a world filled with anxieties, it's challenging to consider how we should not be anxious. Paul's words are not meant to say that we should live carefree lives. His words are an invitation to trust in the Lord. As we have access to the Father through Jesus, we can trust Him. We can bring our anxieties and fears to Him in prayer.
Jesus invites us to let go of fear and trust in Him (Jn. 14:1). Would you take your concerns and your fears to Him in prayer? Find the peace that only He can provide.
