Remember last week who we found inside our Bible Story Box? That’s right, we found Mary and the angel Gabriel who told Mary something very special. What did he tell Mary? (Yes, that she was going to have a baby.)
Well now we are going to find out what happened next. Let’s see what’s inside our box today.
(Have each child reach inside the Bible story box and take out peg dolls or pictures of Joseph and the angel or a small blanket and pillow.)
What did you get? Who do you think that is? or Why do you think there is a pillow and blanket inside?
Now listen to what happened next.
Mary was engaged to be married to a good man named Joseph. Before they were married, she learned she was going to have a baby by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Joseph didn’t understand God’s plan. Then, while Joseph was sleeping, an angel came to him in a dream. The angel said, “Joseph, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife. The baby in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will have a baby boy and you will give him the name Jesus. He will save the people from their sins.”
After the dream, Joseph woke up and did what the Lord’s angel had told him. Joseph married Mary. At that time, an order was sent to all the people. They all had to return to their hometowns to be counted. So Joseph and Mary left their house and traveled to a town called Bethlehem to be counted.
So now we have met an angel, Joseph, and Mary, and they are on their way to Bethlehem to be counted. We will hear more of this story next week. Don’t forget to get your Bible Story Bags on the way to your seat and thank you for listening.
